[ Beggars couldn't be choosers, and smaller rooms meant that they could stretch out the money for a little longer. The trick was that, while he was able to find the inn without any problem, they didn't exactly trust some stranger asking about a pregnant omega that checked in.

Even if everything that he was had been suppressed, it probably came across as a little too predatory for them. Especially with how filthy Shizuo ended up being after the last of those jobs.

It's frustrating when you want to be angry, and that was just blocked from turning into something. ]

[One of the people who worked there went and checked on Hak to ask him about someone who was asking to see him. Thankfully, Hak was able to describe him quite easily.

Which allowed Shizuo to come into the room, where he could see Hak sitting in just a light robe that barely fit him.]

[ Barely fit still counted as fit, which was the important thing for someone that barely knew the pregnant man. He really wasn't ready to know that much about a practical stranger. ]

You settled okay while I was gone? Ah, right.

[ He'll get the last of the money he's earned to add to the purse of their current funds. ]

This is the last from those jobs. It should make things a little easier for the next location.

Yeah, that'll be fine, I think.

[He looks at their funds. Then pulls out his own and adds them all together.]

Hopefully you won't need to keep working.

That'll depend on how much some things cost.

[ Which he said when going into the bag of various suppressants he used. He was rationing them out the best he could, and some had to be taken more often than the others. Ones that weren't exactly sold in other towns.

Probably because they never heard of this weird concoction, or knew some of it used a small portion of some toxic substance. Except it worked, as far as he could tell. No one would be able to guess he was an alpha unless they saw him with his pants down. ]

It's still nothing compared to some of the things I used to have to do. It gives me something to do, as you don't seem to want anyone around when having to rest.

[ A tired Hak is a very cranky and unpleasant one to be around. ]

[Hak didn't watch. He didn't know how private all of that stuff was and he certainly didn't want to cause issues. Letting out a light sigh, he leaned back on the futon and looked up.]

...It's not really that. Just...

[It's still the alpha training in his body that doesn't want him to appear weak.]

...Want people to think I'm strong.

[Even fighting to the brink of exhaustion because he wants people to think he's strong.]

[ He didn't seem to care as to whether Hak watched, either. However he'd be able to hear how little was in a couple of the containers. Something he's not looking forward to. ]

Yeah, well that's stupid. You're not going to be around any of these people for them to think you're strong or weak. I don't care either way, and you'll be rid of me when I get you to where you want, so it's not like anyone that matters is going to see you resting.

[ And when he does get Hak to that place, it'd be time to... Shit. He's still got no idea. Even worse, he's not sure what the nearly empty ones were supposed to do. ]

I'm gonna have to try and get some of these done tomorrow. Otherwise you won't want me helping or even being near you.

[ Given how anti-alpha you seemed to be, Hak. ]

[He looks at Shizuo for a moment. No, he is right about that. About how Hak's alpha state of mind is definitely starting to cause problems here. No one cares, really. To them all, he looks and smells like an omega.]

No. I know you don't. I'm working on it.

[He shakes his head.]

Tell me what you need and I'll take care of it.

[Because if Shizuo is going to be doing the work, Hak should be at least able to help take care of him.]

[ Even more dangerously, Hak looked and smelled like an omega that had no scent of an alpha on him. Which is what he preferred, but there were going to be more times when someone tried to make an 'honest omega' out of Hak. Which wasn't fair, but he figured that was the problem with alpha instincts.

Having them suppressed his whole life, he couldn't really know. ]

It's, uh... These four.

[ He moves 4 of the containers over, of which only 1 seemed to be in a solid form. The others were liquid, as most of his medicines were. ]

Problem is, the solid and one of the liquids were possible for someone to make, but they refused in the last place. I don't know what's going to be said about the others.

[ They refused because it was more poison than medicine. He hasn't shared that part because he's been taking it for years. Obviously he's fine. ]

If you're getting it, I'll pick up a few more small jobs to offset the cost of them so we still have that cushion.

[He has to keep Shizuo on the suppressants, even if it means going out and doing it himself. He knows the moment they drop off, Shizuo is going to revert and he'll take Hak.

And Hak isn't willing to risk that. He looks at the four containers and nods slowly.]

I'll take them now. I'm sure I can convince someone to make them up for tomorrow.

[He slowly stands up again and takes them.]

I'll be back before you know it... if you notice anything strange, come find me in the marketplace. Alright?

Just leave them out- I'll still have to take my morning dose before going as well.

[ Because he's not going to let this ruin the cushion they were trying to set up for traveling around. It could get expensive. Just as he can't risk skipping a dose on any of the things he was supposed to take. ]

I'm not really sure what's supposed to count as strange, but sure. If anyone tries bothering you, just get me as well. It's the other reason why you have me escorting you, after all.

...Right. Yeah.

[He sighs. The cushion is nice, he just doesn't want Shizuo killing himself over this. Which he fears is going to happen if he doesn't do something to get him to stop taking these.

But considering his own attitude in the beginning of all of this, he expects jack shit.]

I've heard rumors that there's a group of alphas who stop by here and take what they want. They're barbarians, you'll know when you see them.

I'm not about to go acting like a barbarian...

[ Hak's been very clear about his opinion on alphas, and how he doesn't want to deal with being around one, for more than just the beginning. Being acutely aware of those complaints, even as they've mostly died down, even simple observations as 'you almost smell like an alpha now' was taken as a sign that he needed to work harder at staying on schedule on those medicines. ]

Ah, or do you think there'd be something given if they're handled?

[Hak just pauses. Well, he might have needed to explain that a little bit better. He does think there might be some good from it. But he looked towards him closely.]

No. Because I'm a pregnant omega. And if they're all alpha barbarians, there's nothing saying they won't try and take me.

[bartenderizing]

[ He's not following what you want, Hak. First you say you'd take care of the medicine, and while he suggested that he'd handle this group, you're bringing up this danger. He's not that skilled at following intentions.

Especially when he has all these medicines going through his head. ]

Then I guess you're staying in here and not going anywhere by yourself. We're back to the original plan of me looking into all this medicine stuff being made myself. You shouldn't have offered in the first place.

No. What I'm saying is that if you notice them, help. I'm going to handle this.

[He grumbles and moving to take them again. Because he's not going to let Shizuo baby him like this. He can handle it, let him.]

You aren't doing everything on your own.

[bartenderizing]

[ He'll move his hand to block the way- they need to be out for his morning dose, remember? ]

You had me escort and keep you safe. So you're not going to act like some alpha magnet to bring trouble around you.

[ Call if babying, but you gave him this task. ]

[He was going to head out now, it's not that late.]

...Fine. Alright.

[He moves to sit down on the bed again, sighing.]

[ It's late enough and he's just worked all day. Which is why he's getting some things to take a bath. He knows that he stinks right now- and it's not the smell of sweat. ]

Just... Figure out something to order for dinner and I'll be back.

[hakingitup]

Fine.

[He can smell it. He doesn't want to smell it because it's making him feel incredibly weird. It reminds him too much of what happened previously.]

I'll think of something.

[bartenderizing]

[ It's just what happens when you're trying to strictly ration medicine, but also burn it off from more intense labor than he's done in a while. That and he also smells like animals, because he'd been carrying injured or belligerent horses. All that Shizuo is aware of is the animal stench.

But he'll get some pants (he thought he grabbed a shirt too,) and head out, returning about an hour later. His hair is a wet and semi-curly mess and the damp towel is over his shoulders. At least he knocks to give Hak a heads up before opening and going into the room.

Being clean just meant that he didn't have the stench of animals covering his natural scent that was starting to come through. ]

Made a choice for dinner?

[What Shizuo walks in on is Hak rutting against one of the pillows. Which looks terrible that a pregnant man is doing that.

But it leads to the problem that the room smells like an in-need omega. And with the medicine having worn off, Shizuo isn't exactly going to last very long with the room smelling like that.]

[ Shizuo really didn't have much exposure with omegas, given the weird way his beta home village worked. Even more, he didn't really understand what it meant, looked like, or smelled like when an omega was in need. At this point, while his scent was coming through, his senses were still miles behind in catching up.

Not that his body was able to ignore what was happening, but he didn't really know the warning signs. Or when he was getting drawn in. ]

Uh...

[ What do, exactly? Does he just leave and lock the door, or stay and make sure nothing bad happens? He does end up deciding on the latter. The pregnant women in his village acted weird after a certain point, so maybe it was like that. ]

Hak, you gonna be okay...?

[ Probably not while his alpha scent was starting to grow potent, though nowhere near its full strength. ]

[When Hak hears him, Shizuo should have noticed the first sign of danger. He quickly stood up, in his naked and pregnant glory, made his way over to him and grabbed him by the collar, glaring at him.]

Take it out and fuck me.

[Forget the whole 'never wanting to be with an alpha'. Apparently Shizuo had done something wrong with his scent, where he was all sweaty, hot, and definitely smelling like an alpha.

So now he had to deal with this.]

[ He should have noticed. If he'd been around anything other than betas, he probably would have.

Except now here he was, half-dressed, with a naked and pregnant omega grabbing him by the towel he had around his shoulders, demanding- Wait, what? Surely he heard that wrong. Hak had made it clear of what he definitely didn't want up until now. ]

Take it... I thought the point was that I didn't.

[ Yet with that prominent and violent need coming off of Hak, he was already realizing how uncomfortable his pants were starting to get. Which is oddly fast and in conflict with the suppressants that were working in keeping his brain from responding properly. It really could only do so much. ]
